Designated hitter Alex Rodriguez blasted 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI at Comerica
Park as the New York Yankees embarrassed the Detroit Tigers by the
lopsided score of 19 to 2.
Rodriguez really lit it up for the Yankees. The Detroit fans let him have it
for what he did to their boys. He doubled plating a run in the 1st inning,
tripled in the 3rd inning, lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' in the 4th inning,
rifled a three-run blast in the 6th inning and doubled in the 8th inning.
Yankee bats were hot in the 4th inning when they had 5 runs on 6 hits
and the 6th inning which saw them plate 5 runs on 3 hits. The New York offense
man-handled the Detroit pitching staff as they scored in 8 of the 9
innings.
Michael Pineda(2-1) was the winner allowing 1 run in 7 innings. Matt Boyd(0-1)
was the loser. He gave up 9 runs in 3 and 2/3 innings of work. The Bronx Bombers
extended their winning streak to 6 games. 'It seems we can't lose these
days', Joe Girardi volunteered after the game. Then after a moment to
reflect he lamented, 'Oh great! Now I've gone and jinxed us!'
